Meditation for Daily Life: Dealing with Difficulties

October 22th, 29th, November 5th and 12th

£28  for whole 4 week course (30% discount) /  £10 each session (drop in or pre-book) / free with membership

Everyone experiences difficulties, such as challenging relationships, stress at work, disappointment, loss, frustration, or unexpected setbacks. Life’s challenges can easily leave us feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or angry.
In these sessions, we will explore practical methods for responding to life’s problems with greater wisdom, patience, and inner strength. Based on the text, How to Solve Our Human Problems by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we will learn how meditation can help us transform the way we experience difficulties rather than simply wishing them away.
Many of our greatest challenges are made harder by our mental reactions—especially anger, frustration, resentment, and resistance. By understanding these habits of mind and learning to work with them skilfully, we can discover a more peaceful and resilient way of living.
Week 1: The Faults of Irritation and Anger
Discover why anger is one of the most destructive states of mind and how it robs us of peace, happiness, and good judgment. Learn meditation techniques that help create space between difficult situations and our reactions.
Week 2: Why Do We Become Irritable? Explore the underlying causes of anger, frustration, and resentment. Learn how unmet expectations, attachment, and habitual ways of thinking contribute to emotional suffering and conflict.
Week 3: Learning to Accept Difficulties
Can difficulties become opportunities for growth? This week we will explore the practice of patient acceptance and learn how resisting reality often increases our suffering. Through meditation, we will develop greater emotional balance and resilience.
Week 4: Responding Wisely to Challenges
Bring together the insights from the course and learn practical ways to meet daily difficulties with patience, understanding, and compassion. Develop a personal toolkit for maintaining inner peace when faced with difficulties.

Everyone is welcome to attend these classes. Whether you are new to meditation or looking to deepen your practice, this course provides practical tools you can begin using immediately in your daily life.

Everybody welcome!

A Fresh Approach to Life’s Challenges
Why do criticism, conflict, jealousy, and disappointment affect us so deeply? Why do we sometimes find ourselves caught in cycles of resentment, comparison, or the need to defend ourselves?
In these sessions we will explore practical Buddhist wisdom and meditation techniques that help us approach life’s challenges from a different perspective. Based on the text, How to Solve Our Human Problems by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we will discover a powerful framework for understanding the deeper causes of our suffering and discovering lasting peace from within. We will learn how to transform our own mind—the true source of both our happiness and also our problems. We will learn how wisdom, patience, and understanding can help you navigate difficult situations with greater confidence and inner freedom.
Week 1: A Fresh Approach to Difficulties
Life rarely unfolds exactly as we would like. This week we will explore how meditation and wisdom can help us respond to challenges in a way that reduces suffering rather than increases it. Learn why our reactions often create more pain than the situations themselves and discover a more empowering way of relating to life’s ups and downs.
Week 2: Karma and the Inner Causes of Suffering
Why do difficulties arise in our lives? This week we’ll explore the principle of karma and learn how our experiences are shaped not only by external circumstances but also by the habits and tendencies of our own mind. Understanding this gives us the power to take responsibility for our happiness and create positive change.
Week 3: Reputation, Praise, and Criticism
Much of our unhappiness comes from seeking approval and fearing criticism. We’ll examine how attachment to reputation can leave us emotionally vulnerable and learn how to develop a stable sense of self-worth that doesn’t depend on what others think of us.
Week 4: Letting Go of Jealousy and Retaliation
Comparison, envy, and resentment can quietly undermine our happiness and relationships. In our final week, we’ll explore practical methods for overcoming jealousy and learn how responding with wisdom rather than retaliation leads to greater peace, compassion, and genuine strength.

Through This Course You Will:
• Learn practical meditation techniques for daily life.
• Develop greater resilience when facing difficulties.
• Understand the inner causes of suffering and unhappiness.
• Gain insight into karma and personal responsibility.
• Reduce the impact of criticism, praise, and social comparison.
• Learn how to work with jealousy, resentment, and hurt feelings.
• Cultivate patience, compassion, and inner confidence.
• Discover a more peaceful and wise response to life’s challenges.
